Sahaja Yoga & Asthma
Meditation helps with Asthma
Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the lungs in which the airways (bronchi) are reversibly narrowed.
When a person with asthma comes into contact with something that irritates their airways (an asthma trigger), the muscles around the walls of the airways tighten so that the airways become narrower and the lining of the airways becomes inflamed and starts to swell. Sometimes sticky mucus or phlegm builds up which can further narrow the airways.
The symptoms of asthma include:
Coughing
Wheezing
Shortness of breath
Tightness in the chest
Benefits of meditation in Asthma
Given the effects of mediation on reducing sympathetic activity and respiratory rates, several studies have investigated whether meditation would have an effect on respiratory diseases.
A study conducted at the Natural Therapies Unit of the Royal Hospital for women, in Sydney, Australia, showed a significant beneficial effect of Sahaja Yoga on Asthma patients who were resistent to steroids (Manocha et al., 2000).
47 patients with severe asthma were randomly allocated to two groups: one group received Sahaja Yoga Meditation treatment (21 patients), the other group received general relaxation treatment (26 patients), both conducted over 4 months and involving a 2 hour session.
The Sahaja Yoga Meditation group showed a significant reduction in the severity of asthma as measured in airway-hyper-responsivity in response to chemical challenge (an objective indicator of the severity of asthma) compared to the control group who received relaxation.
Sahaja Yoga and Education
A young student is constantly faced with multitude of expectations & pressures, at an age when he is growing up emotionally & physically. There are challenges for coming up with solutions to classwork problems, need to gain confidence and become a good orator, thousands of words to be understood & memorized and to make it all more difficult a social environment infested with latest entrainment, gadgets, group belongingness, alcohol & drugs !!.
Thousands of people across the world have witnessed their children gain immensely from a few minutes of Sahaja Yoga meditation each day and become balanced, well-adjusted & bright students. Working on the energy centres, Sahaja meditation reduces mental noise, making one’s power of attention very effective.
Time to understand complex maths theorems and memorise those historical events goes down dramatically. Sahaja Yoga meditation has been practiced quite regularly in many reputed schools of India with majority of schools reporting improved discipline amongst students and better concentration during classes. All of this happens as a result of working of the Kundalini energy on various energy centres of the meditator, thereby strengthening them. These energy centres are directly associated with behavioral qualities associated with a student, such as attention / concentration, self-confidence, creativity, strength to withstand peer pressure and other qualities.
Sahaja Yoga & Medical Science
Sahaja Yoga meditation has been successfully widely researched in the medical discipline for its ability to bring succor to the suffering patients of various physiological and psychological disorders. The basic principles of Sahaja Yoga espouse the integration of mind, body & spirit that are controlled and manifested through the 7 energy centres. Importance is also laid on maintaining balance between the energy flows in the primary energy channels, Ida, Pingala & Sushumna. In fact meditation in Sahaja Yoga is clearly linked to this balance between the energy channels and proper functioning of energy centres or chakras. Hence it has been found in practice that diseases are directly linked to state of energy centres and can be cured by Sahaja Yoga meditation that directly works on these centres. Patients suffering from epilepsy benefited with upto 86% reductiuon in seizures after just 6 months of meditation (Gupta et al, 1991). Reduction of stress related physiological indicators were also found in patients treated with Sahaja Yoga meditation (Panjwani et al, 1995).Other studies have proven significant effect of Sahaja Yoga meditation on patients suffering from asthma, ADHD, Anxiety & Depression, Drug Abuse etc. In fact there is a dedicated facility in the suburbs of Mumbai, India by the name of “The Sahaja Yoga Health & Research Centre” for curing a multitude of physical & mental ailments through principles & practices of Sahaja Yoga meditation.
Sahaja Yoga & Spirituality
The opening of the last and seventh majestic chakra of the virata at the universal level makes it possible for every one of us to achieve self-realisation provided we have desire for it.
With human evolution the time has come – scriptures and religious traditions have been assuring us – when mankind will be able to attain a higher state of consciousness, with the potential to take everyone far beyond all limitations being experienced today. This will make it possible for each one of us to go beyond our limited minds and so embark on a spiritual journey at last. On this truth-revealing path the spirit of the seeker will get Divine attention, and enlighten and guide him to directly experience absolute truth and reality.
This higher knowledge was known and was accessible only to a few sadhakas (seekers) under the guru-shishya parampara(master-disciple tradition). Since higher knowledge or knowing the way to achieve higher knowledge was limited to a few, the experience did not percolate to all – even though the experience itself has been conveyed by seers through writings, poetry and songs down the ages.
Today, the prophesied time has come when self-realisation is possible to all those desiring it through Sahaja Yoga meditation founded by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi. This special kind of yoga is unusual in that it begins with self-realisation, instead of it being a distant future goal.
Once the Kundalini energy – which is the residual, dormant energy within our sacrum bone – is awakened, it manifests as subtle vibrations that can be experienced in our central nervous system like a cool breeze. We could feel its refreshing touch on our palms and on the head. Kundalini energy can be further established by raising it through six chakras each time we meditate, nourishing them with pure divine energy.
This is the next stage in the evolution of human consciousness. It gives us new awareness beyond our limited minds so that we can evolve towards becoming balanced, peaceful and compassionate. This will lead to experiencing universal brotherhood of man.
Sahaja Yoga meditation enables direct experience so that absolute truth is revealed to us spontaneously, and there is no scope of disparity which arises out of mental constructs and dogmas.
Direct experience that is felt within leaves no doubt about our universal nature. The divisive contention that we are different and limited to different faiths, nations, colour, class, race and caste is overcome as we experience a sense of togetherness – that we belong to one Divine family. Through Sahaja Yoga a connection takes place between each individual soul, jeevatama and universal soul, parmatama.
Sahaja Yoga & Lifestyle
Over the last few decades, the increasing speed and pressures of modern living have been matched by an increasing need for ways to cope with them. Medical science is now proving what a growing number of people in the West have discovered for themselves: that the relaxation of true meditation has measurable beneficial effects on all levels of our being, with no damaging side effects.
In Sahaja meditation, one develops a conscious awareness of the subtle energy that exists within us all, and a spontaneous connection with the inner mechanism by which it is governed. This integration cannot be forced through exercises, chanting or mantras. It happens as a natural awakening, in just the same way that our body grows and maintains itself, without any conscious effort on our part.
This inner integration can take place in ordinary people everywhere, irrespective of age, occupation, race, color and creed. It is not a theory or a concept that has to be worked at. Sahaja Yoga is a solid experience, an actual, physical reality verifiable in one’s own nervous system, which leads on to spontaneous improvements in one’s well-being and relationship with the world. These include numerous incidents in overcoming alcohol and drug addiction, diseases (such as cancer), heart problems and other physical and mental disorders such as stress, depression and tension.
As a person becomes integrated and balanced, benefits become visible in the form of good health. Gradually, spiritual evolution manifests in the mind and body, with the result that one gets relief from physical and psychosomatic ailments. Sound mental health is attained by being better able to overcome stress and tension. Emotional well-being brings harmony in family life and social relations. Children show progress in studies and develop latent talents that were hitherto untapped.
Peace, contentment and joy are some of the benefits of practising Sahaja Yoga meditation. This form of meditation gives us the ability to use the power that is already within us. This helps us to effortlessly and spontaneously achieve a peaceful state of balance, well-being , harmony and self-knowledge.
From that moment one is able to start bringing balance into one’s life. As well as the benefits mentioned above, the simple meditation and techniques of Sahaja Yoga bring one onto the central path between such damaging opposites as: Too much lethargy or too much frantic activity – of too much emotion or lack of emotion – of living too much in the past, or thinking too much of the future. So one becomes a calm, joyful personality, confident and able to enjoy living in the present.
Sahaja Yoga & Religion
The word RELIGION comes from a latin word “religare” which means “to unite”. The essence of all major religions of the world is the same: truth. The purpose is the same: to lead a better life, united with the power which created us. The religions were all based on the teachings of Divine incarnations who came on this earth, at different times and places, to guide humanity towards its collective emancipation.
Over time, because self realization was not yet available to everyone, their truth was buried under concepts and rituals by the people “in charge”. They became rich and powerful. The truth and real essence of the religions faded and became a belief. Sahaja Yoga can for the first time integrate and prove these timeless truths, on our central nervous system itself
Through the process of Self Realization achieved in Sahaja Yoga, the truth of these religions becomes apparent: it is not revealed through compliance to dogmas. It manifests through the liberation of our potential for a higher state of well being. We thus come to truly grasp and accept the essence of these great teachings, not on a mental basis, not by trying to reconcile the differences and ritualism which was added to them over the ages by the people in charge, but through our own experience.
Sahaja Yoga unites the essence of all religions through direct perception of the subtle, divine reality. Sahaja Yoga is moving spirituality from the realm of dogma into the realm of individual experimentation. It is a practice, a direct experience which is felt on our central nervous system and requires no act of faith to substantiate it.
Kundalini: The fire-like purifying power
In many of Her discourses, founder of Sahaja Yoga H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi has spoken about the Kundalini (the divine energy within).
She says:
“So this power must be made to manifest, but when it manifests, then this power has got certain qualities. The first quality it has got is it goes against the gravity. You see, a thing rises, it doesn’t go down, so a person has to be aspiring by nature, if a person is not the aspiring type the Kundalini doesn’t rise, because, like you see that when food passes down our stomach it presses the sides of the intestines. By that these movements of going down takes place. You see my point? So when the Kundalini starts pressing on the sides of the Chakras, she creates a feeling of throwing it higher and higher so the Chakra is bounced upward. All the heavy things go downward, but the Kundalini rises higher and higher and higher, because it is like fire. Fire never burns downward, it always burns upwards. She looks also like fire, and she has the capacity of fire within Her. The fire has a capacity to purify, and to burn off whatever can be burnt off. It purifies the things which it cannot burn and burns all the things which are inflammable, which can be burnt out. So, the quality of fire that exists in the Kundalini burns off whatever is useless, like in our house, we find all the useless things, and we take them in the garden and burn them, finished – once and for all they’re all finished. So when the Kundalini rises, She also burns off all useless things, all your useless desires, your useless ideas of action, all sorts of useless accumulation of feelings and egos, and every sort of a nonsensical thing that is in between. Everything is burnt off fast, because they can be burnt, they are not eternal by nature. They are not eternal by nature. They are temporarily there. All that is temporary, she burns down, and that’s how she enlightens the Spirit, because Spirit cannot be burnt by anything.”
Kundalini is pure desire
In many of Her discourses, founder of Sahaja Yoga H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi has spoken about the Kundalini (the divine energy within).
She says:
“…Kundalini is the Pure Desire within us that manifests or is awakened to give us our self realization. This means the desire is only fulfilled when you get your self realization, otherwise it is not manifested – it is just dormant; it is still residual. It has created the whole universe, but until and unless you get self realization, unless and until you become one with your spirit, you have not achieved the manifestation of this power, which will go on making you run and run and run, thinking that you have not yet achieved or you have not found out your meaning. It will be there, all the time, sleeping, but giving you a feeling of vacuum.”
Kundalini as living energy
In many of Her discourses, founder of Sahaja Yoga H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi has spoken about the Kundalini (the divine energy within).
She says:
“It is absolutely pure light of knowledge, love, compassion and attention. All these things are in that energy. We know of several energies like electrical energy. We know of light energy. We know of other energies. But these energies cannot think. They cannot adjust. They cannot work on their own. They are to be handled by us. But this energy, itself, is the living energy and knows how to handle itself. It thinks. If you see a seed being sprouted, you’ll find at the tip of the seed there’s a small little cell, which knows how to go around the soft places and then how to encircle the stones and then how to find its way to the source. That cell has got, I would say, a little Kundalini, the way it moves. But within you is a tremendous force of Kundalini.”
Kundalini acting through the three channels
Kundalini is the primordial power in a human being, it is many strands of energy twisted together just like in a rope. When one gets Self Realisation (awakening of the Kundalini), one or two strands out of this come up and pierce the fontanelle bone area. By that, the relaxation of the central channel begins. By the relaxation of this (parasympathetic) channel, the sympathetic nervous system comprising of the left and right channels also starts relaxing. When the Kundalini reaches the Agnya Chakra (optic chiasma), then the eyes start relaxing, the pupils start dilating and the eyes can become absolutely relaxed. So, one can easily see in a person how far the Kundalini is. If it has pierced the Agnya, then the eyes will be completely dilated and will be shining and then she enters into the Sahasrara (limbic area).
Kundalini as Self-Knowledge
In many of Her discourses, founder of Sahaja Yoga H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi has spoken about the Kundalini (the divine energy within).
She says:
“…Self Realization is Self Knowledge and the one who gives you Self Knowledge is this, your own Kundalini, because when she rises, she points it out, what are the problems on your Chakras. Now, we say that it is pure desire, but we do not know what purity means. It means your chaste desire. It means it has no lust, greed, anything in it. That power is your own Mother and is settled in your triangular bone (Sacrum bone). She’s your own mother. She knows everything about you. It’s like a tape recorder. She knows everything about you and she is absolutely the knowledge because she’s so pure. And whatever chakras she touches, she also knows what’s wrong with that chakra beforehand. So she’s quite prepared and she adjusts herself fully so that you do not get a problem by her awakening. If any Chakra is constricted, she waits and goes on slowly opening that Chakra.”
Sahaja Yoga Experience
How would one describe something that goes beyond one’s imagination?
Thus Self Realisation cannot be explained without the real experience. The only way to know it is to experience it. A divine blessing gifted by H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, Self Realisation or “atma-sakshatkar” is the awakening of the mother energy inside us known as the Kundalini. After Self Realisation, we can feel the vibrations flowing through our being. These vibrations are nothing but the energy of Divine love that fills us with utmost bliss. This divine energy then guides us in every aspect of our life and can be felt on our hands and on top of the head in the form of cool breeze (Chaitanya lahiri).
Then one can feel the presence of divinity through this cool breeze flowing through our hands. What’s even more beautiful is that with these vibrations, one can also work on and heal others’ chakras. The more we give, the stronger our vibrations become. It’s an experience that is extremely fulfilling and yet so simple.
Sahaja Yoga Meditation
Physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well being, that’s the effect of Sahaja Yoga meditation.
Widely researched and proven to cure patients with physical and psychological disorders, Sahaja Yoga is today practiced worldwide in over 100 countries with miraculous results. It is based on the basic principle of integration of the body, mind and spirit, governed by 7 energy centres and 3 energy channels. Maintaining a balance between these energy channels- Ida, Pingala and Sushumna and ensuring the proper functioning of the energy centres or chakras leads to complete harmony in an individual. Once the chakras are cured by Kundalini awakening, all mental and physical diseases just go away and one enjoys a blissful healthy life. The problems of our day to day life slowly fade away. One transforms into a better human being and develops the qualities of forgiveness, compassion, purity and love for all.
Harmonious World
Imagine a world where everything exists in perfect harmony.
Where everyone sings the song of love and brotherhood of the mankind.
Where peace is not just a dream but felt inside.
Where all religions join hands and spread the message of being one with the whole.
That’s the divine blessing of Sahaja Yoga given to the mankind by H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi.
Sahaja Yoga is a unique method of meditation based on the raising of our Kundalini- the mother energy which leads to self realisation and inner transformation of the individual.
As a result of this, the individual establishes his/her connection with the divine and becomes integrated, united, moral and balanced. Through daily meditation, one begins to enjoy the fruits of this blessing on both physical and emotional levels. The divine blessing of cool breeze (chaitanya lahiri) that starts flowing through the hands and over the head makes one feel how beautifully we are being taken care of by the power that has created us. This is a direct connection with the power of Divine Love.
Sahaja Yoga and Spiritualism
With the increasing stress of our daily lives, we all tend to stray our energies in meaningless thoughts and activities. Somehow, we just behave and act like puppets that perform their daily chores and retire when the time comes. But within each one of us is a seeker, who wants to know the truth, who questions the very purpose of our existence.
This very question is answered with the blessings of Self Realisation bestowed on us by H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi. As stated by Mother, Self-Realisation is the first encounter with reality. Once our Kundalini is awakened, we start becoming aware of our self; the Spirit. We realize that we are not this mind or this body but we are the spirit that gets connected to the all pervading power through our mother energy – the Kundalini.
It is then that we are born again and we start enjoying and cherishing everything around us created by the almighty. Slowly, with the help of meditation, we reach a state of “nirvicharita” or thoughtless awareness where our inner growth takes place. We begin to feel the peace that we have always been searching for. Once the mother energy clears all the obstacles in our subtle system, we are showered with bliss and all the worries of life simply fade away.
Sahaja Yoga and Music
Ancient saints believed that Music is a divine gift to humanity. Many believed that through Music, one can attain a state of oneness with the Divine. Beyond mere entertainment, Music is a divine vehicle that can take us to a higher state. How can we know which music is “in tune with the Divine” and which one isn’t? Sahaja Yoga gives a very interesting hypothesis to experiment on the same. It is said that divine music can be really enjoyed after one attains the state of Self Realization. For a yogi (one who has achieved Yoga the union i.e. Self Realization) it is very easy to ‘recognize the Music’. As there are 7 notes in music similarly we have 7 energy centres in our subtle system and ‘true’ music tends to nourish and soothe these centres and one can feel the same at subtle level.
Many Sahaja Yoga meditation practitioners have discovered a new dimension of their musical talent, and many renowned artists have achieved great heights after their Self Realization.
Sahaja Yoga and Economics
One of the laws of economics is “Wants are insatiable in nature”. It is evident in our day to day lives that there is always a mismatch between our desires and achievements. As per Sahaja Yoga once a person attains Self-Realization his desires and actions become balanced and the person starts attending to the “pure desire”.
Sahaja Yoga helps the individual to realize that his identity does not lie in material gain, qualifications or wealth, but in the Spirit or the Self. In fact, as a by-product of achieving his/her spirit he gets all kinds of physical, mental and material gains as well.
Sahaja Yoga and Society
The lack of love between people is the main cause of disturbances in the society. People are fighting in the name of cast, creed, race & country. As per H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, this is happening just because of the darkness of ignorance. It is like a dark room in which people are fighting over a piece of wood. Someone is identifying it as a chair while the other one calls it a table and someone else is saying that it is a sofa. But when there is light in the room people can see everything clearly and then there will be no fighting. Here Sahaja Yoga plays a vital role by enlightening the human brain through Self Realisation. After Self Realisation a person becomes loving and can easily make out what is good or bad for him/her and the society as a whole.
Sahaja Yoga and Leadership
One of the greatest virtues of leadership is not only the ability to inspire others to follow voluntarily, but also to empower through inspiration so that each individual becomes a leader himself/herself. Those who achieve this through setting themselves as inspiring examples are the ones whom civilizations remember as great leaders. A good leader has many inspiring qualities such as integrating the outer actions with inner values, honest dealings, well-controlled emotions to name a few. Once a person is Self Realised, these qualities are awakened & manifested into an individual. Thus, a nation’s political scenario can change for the better if the politicians are self realised.
One such leader by whom we can all be inspired is Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Sahaja Yoga and IT Industry
IT and ITES are couple of the most demanding and fast-paced sectors in today’s world. People working in IT are required to achieve goals, meet deadlines, work in night shifts, demonstrate positive performance etc. All of these factors contribute to tension, depression, sense of insecurity and ultimately stress. Sahaja yoga has offered “Stress Management” workshops to IT companies and that too free of cost.
Results: In these workshops the employees who were stressed feel relaxed. They learn how to get rid of stress on their own.
Sahaja Yoga and Agriculture
Sahaja Yoga has shown significant results in agriculture. After achieving self-realization in Sahaja Yoga the divine all-pervading energy called as “vibrations” starts flowing through one’s being. The same can be used to “vibrate” seeds, fertilizers and water by directing it towards them with the grace of H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, the founder of Sahaja Yoga. Several researches have been done with vibrated water, vibrated fertilizer and vibrated seeds. During an experiment a research team divided a farm field into 4 parts. In one part they used vibrated water for the crop. In second part they used normal water. In the third part they used vibrated fertilizer for the crop and in fourth part they used normal fertilizer for the crop.
Results: Farm field’s part number 1 and 3 in which vibrated water and fertilizers were used shown great results, in term of quality and quantity of the crop as compared to the normal water and fertilizer.
Sahaja Yoga and Healing
The founder of Sahaja Yoga, H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, says this yoga is a very different thing.
She says
“In Sahaja Yoga your Kundalini rises and connects you with the all-pervading power. So all the time you are getting power and the vital power within you is flowing. And there is dearth of that power. It’s all the time flowing, the grace. But here when you tap one energy to another there’s no proper understanding how much to give, how much to balance. And there is no need at all. Once you are a realized soul supposing somebody has a stomach trouble you have to just put your hand on the stomach, finished. That’s the way you can cure. You can cure cancer, you can cure anything. Because you become the source of that energy and your energy is not limited, you are getting energy from the all-pervading power. You are connected with it so what ever you are doing, it’s just flowing like that and you just become a witness of that power which is flowing.”
Sahaja Yoga and Physical Body
The Human body is a miracle of biological engineering. With around 100 billion neurons in the brain, 40 million olfactory receptor cells to help us smell and around 130 million retinal receptor cell rods to let us see, this delicate but incredibly complex shell is much more than simply a bundle of skin and bone.
It is only recently that the scientists and doctors have started to concede that there might be a real and defined correlation between our physical side and the invisible, yet equally (if not more) important spiritual body.
The practitioners of Sahaja Yoga meditation have known for years that there is a connection between the energy centres (Chakras) and the physical body, and recent studies have indeed begun to show that meditation not only leads to our spiritual enlightenment but also has a positive impact on every aspect of our life.
Sahaja Yoga and Stress Management
The term stress refers to the emotionally disruptive or unsettling condition of our mind that occurs as a result of reaction to seemingly adverse external influences. People these days working in the corporate organisations generally experience a lot of Stress which affects both their professional and personal life. There is a Sahaja Yoga Corporate Workshop team which conducts workshops on “Stress Management through Sahaja Yoga Meditation“. These workshops are for social cause, absolutely free of cost and are based on the process of Self Realisation through Kundalini Awakening.
H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi blessed mankind with this technique of achieving a Balanced State through the inner Power of the Kundalini, after attaining Atmsakshtar or Self Realisation. The Divine Love of God Almighty which is present all around us in the form of cool breeze or vibrations nourishes the energy centres and channels present in the subtle system of a human being. So, just by practicing Sahaja Yoga one can be in the balanced state and get rid of stress in one’s day to day life.
The power of collectivity
One of the important methods of progressing in our meditation is to understand and use the benefit of the collective experience. Regular attendance at a local Sahaja Yoga meeting definitely improves our meditation at home. Every time we have a collective meditation we go deeper and learn a little more, even though it might seem that attending the meeting is simply covering old ground.
Our individual progress is driven by our subtle desire, which means that we receive the exact spiritual answers we need and just at the right time. The best way of receiving these answers is by continuing to attend collective meetings, advanced courses or any of the subtle ceremonies.
Spirituality versus Religion
Through our meditation we learn that while religion often deals only with man-made interpretations of faith, pure spirituality deals with the root aspects of our very existence. Spirituality is a journey towards the nature of being and the ultimate relationship between mind, consciousness and the universe. Modern religion on the other hand, often appears to provide nothing more than a sad web of illusion and conceit.
This is not to say that the root message of these religions has failed, but rather that man’s flawed interpretation and motivations have distorted or obscured the real truths inherent in the teachings. It is a sad fact that many, if not all religions today appear more concerned with furthering a self-serving agenda rather than really improving the human condition. Nevertheless, a truly spiritual person should be able to detect and respect the beauty at the heart of all the core religious messages, no matter from which faith, era or country.
For this reason it is important for us to recognise the root message and truth which becomes possible after receiving our self realisation which teaches us to judge such aspects with compassion and an open mind.
However, a crucial aspect of our true spiritual journey is for each of us to become our own Master or Guru, without the need for external crutches. This requires that we empty our mind of modern concepts and conditionings which tell us for example, that ‘God is this’ or ‘Spirituality is that’. The open minded – and hearted – amongst us have the greatest chance of progressing towards the real knowledge of the Self.
Sahaja Yoga in our daily lives
As Yogis we learn to appreciate the power of detached involvement and organising without organisation.
We should remember that as long as we have the desire to grow spiritually and are regular in our meditation, we will continue to reap the full benefits of our spiritual growth.
It is also possible for each of us to use our new found balance to improve our environment in many ways. We may find ourselves promoting a more spiritual way of life at work, or offering a calm word and sympathetic ear to friends and family. Often we may be called upon to introduce our meditation technique, which is again where we can offer Self Realisation as a gentle introduction to the spiritual way of life.
Sahaja Yogi
True Yoga is not built around organisation or infrastructure; instead it has the Spirit as its foundation. Any authentic Yoga is also more than mere religion; it is an individual journey into the nature of Self. This search for self – knowledge is as old as time, and involves no conflict between our religious beliefs and the practice of our meditation. The two must exist in harmony, as both are based around the core ideal of the eternal Spirit of man. Pure Yoga therefore needs no dogma, ritual or external props.
In the same manner there is no Sahaja Yoga organisation which one can ‘join’, just like one cannot join one’s own personality. We evolve into our personality as our life goes on, and in the same way we truly progress in our Yoga by becoming meditative in all ways – by becoming more peaceful, more balanced and more compassionate in our day to day lives. In this way, over a period of time and with constant practice we ‘become’ Sahaja Yogis.
It is not hard to recognise the clues of this transition towards becoming a true Yogi :
- The whole focus of our life changes – we seek primarily to nurture our growing relationship with God and the Spirit.
- Materialistic attitude gradually drops away and is replaced by an inner peace through spiritual growth.
- Our relationship with the omnipresent divine power deepens at every level and we begin to recognise its true essence.
- We develop a deep seated desire to help others discover the same wonderful spiritual path.
- The world becomes a beautiful place to live in. We begin to experience powerful and meaningful events in our meditation and our life in general.
Self Realisation
In ancient times Self-Realisation was a distant goal for seekers which was almost impossible to attain even with the most arduous practice. Now in these modern times we are fortunate to be able to experience the power of true Self-Realisation through the easy technique of Sahaja Yoga meditation and Kundalini awakening. The founder of Sahaja Yoga, H.H.Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi says that this can be the start of a wonderful journey of discovery, one where we can make amazing use of our new found power of compassion to improve our environment, relationships and the world at large.
